Why one quote says €300 and another says €5,000 for the same website
Because it isn't the same website, even if the screenshots look alike. The difference comes down to three things: whether it's built on a template or from scratch, how much work goes into each page, and who looks after it once it's live.
A site built on a WordPress or Wix template goes up fast and comes in cheap. The trouble starts later: plugins that need updating, a site that gets slower every year and nobody to call when it breaks. A site built for your business costs more up front, but it loads fast, it's harder to hack and it doesn't rely on twenty third-party add-ons.
There's a bit of everything out there. This is what we tend to see around Girona:
| Who builds it | Build price | What usually happens next |
|---|---|---|
| You, with Wix or Squarespace | €0 + €15–40/month for the platform | It works, but it struggles on Google and you have to look after it |
| A rushed job, on a template or generated with AI | €300–500 | Cheap, but hard to extend, and nobody answers when it breaks |
| A freelancer who takes it seriously | from around €1,200 | Good work, as long as they're still around when you need them |
| A small studio, custom-built | €850–3,500 | A fixed price and someone who maintains it |
| A large agency | €5,000 or more | Lots of process, and you never speak to the person writing the code |
None of these is bad in itself. If your business has just started and money is tight, a well-made template will do. What doesn't make sense is choosing on the build price alone without looking at what it'll cost to keep running.
Our prices, no small print
These are our reference prices. They exclude VAT, and the calculator gives you your exact figure.
| Project | Build | Maintenance |
|---|---|---|
| One-page landing site | from €450 | €17/month |
| Business website (5 pages) | €850–1,250 | €25/month |
| Website with bookings, payments and 2 languages | €2,400–3,500 | around €80/month |
We give a range rather than a single number because every project is different. We confirm the final price in writing before we start, and it doesn't move halfway through.
How we price a website
The price comes from the hours it takes, not from what we think you can afford. Part of it is fixed and part of it grows with what you ask for:
- Setup. A fixed number of hours to build it, put it live and register it with Google.
- Each page. A five-page site takes more work than a one-page site, but not five times as much.
- Design. On a template it's cheaper; custom design is the reference price; with animations and lots of detail, quite a bit more.
- Extras. Bookings or appointments, an online shop, Stripe payments, a blog you edit yourself or user accounts. Each one adds its own hours.
- Languages. Every extra language adds a share of the page work. If you get tourists, it's usually worth it.
- Copy. If we write the text, it's a small extra per page.
Rush jobs cost 20% more. We don't take on anything under €450, because we couldn't do it properly.
What's included in the price (and what isn't)
The build price always includes:
- Mobile-first design and launch on our servers.
- Basic SEO: titles, descriptions, sitemap and Search Console setup.
- Cookie-free visitor stats.
- Legal pages: legal notice, privacy and cookies.
- Two rounds of design changes.
Not included unless you ask: writing the copy, photos, the logo and the first year of your domain. Always check this on any quote. A €600 website without legal pages or Google setup isn't really a €600 website.
What it costs to keep it running each year
This is the part most people leave out when they quote you. A website isn't finished the day it goes live: it needs hosting, a domain renewal, backups and updates to stay secure.
With us, maintenance for a site you don't edit yourself is €15/month, and €25/month if you want to change the text yourself. That covers hosting, HTTPS, backups, updates, checks every 5 minutes and a monthly report. A domain is €2/month and each mailbox €4/month. Pay for the year up front and you pay for 10 months.
Work it out over three years, not the first month. A €1,000 website at €25/month comes to about €1,900 over three years, and you know someone's looking after it. A €400 site you end up rebuilding in year two because nobody maintained it costs more. If you want to see exactly what's covered, it's all on our website maintenance page.
How to compare two quotes
Put them side by side and check:
- Is the price fixed? If it just says "from", ask what could push it up.
- What happens after launch? Who hosts it, what it costs per month and how quickly they reply if it goes down.
- Is it yours? The domain should be in your name, and if you leave, you take the site and your email with you.
- How many rounds of changes are included? And what anything after that costs.
- Is there a minimum contract? We don't have one, and we'd be wary of anyone who ties you to a website for a year.
